Demand for vegetable seedlings has been increasing over the years. Ease of availability of quality vegetable seedlings at reasonable costs, however, is a challenge and an important tool for the success of vegetable production and profitability. A vegetable nursery is a managed site, designed to produce vegetable seedlings grown under favourable conditions until they are ready for final transplanting.
Nursery is pre-requisite for producing quality seedlings in lesser input and nursery management is a potential tool to execute the activity in successful means. All nurseries primarily aim to produce sufficient quantities of high quality seedlings to satisfy the needs of users. Raising the quality seedlings is a specialised technique which requires skill and technical knowhow. Good seedlings give better field stand and abundant yield. The seeds of many vegetables such as tomato, brinjal, chilli, capsicum, cauliflower, cabbage, knoll-khol, chinese cabbage, brussels sprout, onion etc. are firstly sown in nursery bed to raise seedlings in proper management condition are able to increase 20-25% yield. Transplanted vegetables produces the necessary leaf canopy at a much faster rate than the direct seeded vegetables Thus, the production of quality seedlings are of paramount importance for increasing the yield potential and meeting the ever increasing demand of vegetables at reasonable price and generating additional income.
The prime objective of Green World Foundation will be growing of vegetable nursery and supply of quality seedlings of different vegetable of different season at cheaper rate as per the requirements of the farmers/growers for particular region. The farmers will be trained for package of practices of different vegetables. This will enable the farmers to save time, money, reduce cost of cultivation and ultimately increase production, productivity and profitability from vegetables.
